“EDUCATION IS NOT PREPARATION OF LIFE EDUCATION IS LIFE ITSELF” JohnDewey

When I started to jot down a few lines on importance of education, a second thought rolled over my mind. Do I really need to share with the educators ‘how importance education is’? While pondering over, the memories of some great educationists like Dadabhai Navroji, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Madan Mohan Malaviya, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam etc. flashed through my mind. I even recalled a thought written on the corridor of my school, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” And so I continued…..

I hear a baby crying aloud as she is born. I see cracks on cocoon and new born butterfly comes out. What if this would not have happened!!! Probably the baby would not have learned to speak and the butterfly would not have learned to fly. Yes, learning is part and parcel of life right from birth to death. We learn to breathe in the new world, we learn to calm down and adapt to the world accepting the people around. We learn to crawl, to stand, to walk, to talk and to write. Everything starts from the first breath we take and all through our life we gain knowledge, wisdom, confidence, courage and till the last breath we keep on and on learning things.

In simple words, Education is Enthusiastically Discovering Uncovering Common Attainable Talents to Influence Others & oneself Notably. Being well educated never only means to earn certificates and good salary from the recognized and reputed organization, companies or institutions however it also means to be a good and social person in life. It helps us to determine whether something is good or bad for us and other persons related to us. The first purpose of getting good education is being good citizen and then being successful in personal and professional life. We are incomplete without a good education because education makes us right thinker and correct decision maker. In such a competitive world, education has become a necessity for human beings after food, clothes and shelter. It is able to provide solutions to all problems; it promotes good habits and awareness about corruption, terrorism, and other social issues among us.

On one hand education is centered around for oneself and on the other hand it effect is percolated among all the human beings around us. One without the other is incomplete. Hence I would sum up by quoting the words of Gandhiji, “Education is all round development, drawing the best in man’s body, mind and spirit.”
